Example:
Contradiction: pg 5 “The story was that
the three skeletons, gleaming with phosphorescent light, danced over the small
rock, screaming”
This quote shows a contradiction because
the island the narrator is going to work on, is haunted. Most people with common sense wouldn’t take a
job somewhere where people have died, were eaten by birds, and now haunt the
area.
Signpost 1-Contradiction:Pg 51 "What you don't know is that i have no intention of claiming it." This quote show contridiction because Halt is refusing the throne of Clonmel, and refusing to be king. Normally, when someone is offered to be the king of a kingdom, they would accept in a heartbeet, making it strange Halt would deny.
ReplyDeleteSignpost 2-Memory Moment:Page 231 "I think its time you knew about my past at Dun Kilty."
This quote is a memory moment because Halt is delving into the past. Halt decided he should give his companions backround knowledge about his time when he was a prince, by telling them memories and such.
Signpost 3-Aha Moment: Pg 352 "I have been gone to long to consider this my home anymore."
I believe this is an Aha moment because it answers a previous question/contridiction about Halt. I was wondering why Halt would refuse the title of king, but when i read further on, i saw Halt say this quote. This made me think "Ohhhhh thats why he didn't want to be king...." and answered my question.
Contradiction pg 210: "Against my will, I had arrived at that age when a young girl began to acquire those skills she would need to manage her own household after marriage"
ReplyDeleteThis quote shows a contradiction because the main character Callie doesn't want to learn the expected womanly skills of sewing, cooking a cleaning. During that era, women were meant to stay at home being housewives, and it was not proper for them to become scholarly professionals like doctors or scientists. Callie wants to be a scientist, studying animals and plants. This was uncommon for girl to do this.
Aha Moment pg 320: "We have concluded that you have identified a new species of hairy vetch heretofore unknown"
This is an aha moment because Callie and her grandfather have sent a letter to the Smithsonian stating that they believe they found a new species of a plant. They waited around for months patiently waiting when they finally received a letter everyone has been waiting for. Callie and her grandfather spend their time exploring outside; observing plants, animals, pond water, and insects.
Tough Questions pg 312: "If he was tired of Calpurnia and her childish company. Right Calpurnia? Why would he go off collecting by himself?"
This is a tough question because grandfather and Callie use to always go off hunting, observing, and collecting species together. Now, ever since Callie's mom is trying to teach Callie her housework skills to prepare her for housework/marriage, Callie is distanced from grandfather and their mini expeditions. She questions and writes in her notebook why he would go off by himself even if she's been busy and hasn't made an attempt to invite her on a hike recently, and if he truly missed and cared about Callie.
Contradiction : pg 90. In the story Molly and Michael go down a road that seems to lead to the Harper house and when they go down they see the gardener fishing at the pond near the Harper house when he is scared of the house. In the story when the gardener comes the day after they move in and he tells the kids to not to get to close to the house because alot of kids disappear and found dead a few days later.
ReplyDeleteWords of the wiser: pg 90. The gardener tells them not to ever go into the pond becaise it is very dangerous and strange things happen. When a pond is dangerous that usaully means not to go into it and can if so kill you if you go into it.
Contradiction : pg 84. When molly and micheal are in the library learning about whatg happened to helens family when her dad got married and called the millers but before that he was married and called the harpers and found out that the whole house burned down in flames as long with the family.
