Journal #5

Journal Entry #5- 11/6/12

Think about the mood of your book so far.  Is it more funny? Serious? Intense?  Tell what type of mood your story has and then explain why you believe the author chose to use this mood in his/her writing.

  1. I believe the mood of my book is a serious and taut, with the occasional humorous moment. I think the author chose to have this kind of mood mainly because Halt, Will, and Horace are in the middle of an action-packed and life-threatening adventure. In the story, they are tracking down a 'religious' cult, that are really thieves. The cult is going around tricking people out of their money, and burning down villages afterwards. To have a happy and joyful mood would be very out of place, and make the story seem strange. Also, by have the serious mood, it makes you want to read more, and find the outcome of the whole matter.

  2. The mood of the story is serious and intense because evry since their parents have died the kids wealth has gone away. Now they are working at a lumber mill were they have to make wood out oftree bark. the orphans do not like their job or the forman whos a loud rude personwho is making them work even the baby. I think the author chose this mood for the story because it shows how people should appreciate what you have and be glad that you don't have a life like their's.

  3. OLD BOOK: Speak
    By:Laurie Halse Anderson

NEW BOOK: Evolution of Calpurnia Tate
    By: Jacqueline Kelly

The mood in my book so far is calm, relaxing, peaceful, and gainful. So far in the story, "Callie" is in the middle of a summer heatwave. She is currently observing the natural world around her, writing her observations in her journal. She is bonding and spending time with her grandfather; they both act like naturalists and go on hikes to explore nature. I believe the author chose this mood because usually if you are studying animals in a cool running stream of fresh clear water, or observing butterflies and pondering about nature, usually the mood creates a natural, peaceful mood. When it comes to nature, nothing is really intense, or serious, or barbaric.

  4. The mood of my book is like a funny and weird mood.I think the author wrote the book like this so he can make it more interesting for people our age and maybe even younger or older.I like the way the author did that because it makes the story funny.

  5. I feel that the mood of this story is a vivid scary, mysterious novel. The reason why i think my author( Mary Downing Hahn) picked this mood for this story is because she wanted to make it interesting to where you are on the edge of your seat waiting to hear the next event or complication.

  6. The mood of my book is very intence because it takes place in veietnam during the viatnam war and the main charater and all the other charaters are in the army and must go out fighting quite offte. This makes for many action seanes and everyone must always be on their toes.

  7. I think my book is more serious because Matilda she is trying live a normal life with a bunch of brainless T.V. watching family even though she has the brains of an adult it's hard to fit in or her
