Contradiction:
pg 5 “The story was that the three skeletons, gleaming with phosphorescent light,
danced over the small rock, screaming”
This
quote shows a contradiction because the island the narrator is going to work
on, is haunted. Most people with common
sense wouldn’t take a job somewhere where people have died, were eaten by
birds, and now haunt the area.
Signpost 1:Contradiction, Page 255 "They want to parley."
ReplyDeleteI think this is a contradiction because the people wanting to parley, the Tualaghi, are normally ruthless and cold blooded raiders. You would normally expect them to attack, rather than parley.

Signpost 2:Tough Question, Page 214 "His arrow flashed across the oasis, missing the boy's reaching hand by centimeters"
During this part, Will was showing Umar his accuracy with his bow. To show him, he chose an area near Umar's grandchild, which was a very idiotic idea, since he could've killed him. This makes me wonder why he would shoot there.

Signpost 3: Aha Moment Page 214 "The meter-long body of the sand cobra he had shot"
This quote had answered my previous question of why he would shoot near the grandchild. By shooting there, he saved Umar's grandchild, and proved his accuracy. This made me think "Ohhhh thats why" in my head
1: MEMORY MOMENT page 22- the story says that the sunlight was shinning though the tree top on to the graves. i remember when it was the 1st time i had ever gone to my brothers grave and the sun was beaming right on it.
ReplyDelete2: WORDS OF THE WISER page 22- the story says that Heather is on top of the tombstone but her dad tells her to get off them because they will give you bad luck if you disrespect them. usually the older people are more smarter or educated than the younger if taught properly.
3: MEMORY MOMENT page 18- the story says that Molly finds a grave yard with heather and comes back all scared and her brother wanted to see but her step dad said that they had to clean they're rooms first. when my brother came back and had found something down at the pond my parents said i couldn't go until all my homework was done and i had cleaned my room.
Aha Moment: pg. 27 "Aren't you the one who called the cops at Kyle Rodger's party at the end of the summer?"
ReplyDeleteThis quote shows an Aha moment because before, Melinda hints at why she is an outcast in her first year of high school. She use to part of a "clan" in middle school, but something terrible happened before to make her unwanted. Now I know she attended a party and something illegal was happening, so she called the cops. However people became arrested and lost some opportunities that they blame on Melinda. She is know as the "snitch". Now she is a "nobody" that people don't want to be friends with.
Memory Moment: pg. 24 "I used to be like Heather. Have I changed that much in two months?"
This shows that something snapped inside Melinda before she formed new characteristics now. She is moody, negative, and nonchalant about what is said behind her back or who bullies her. Before she use to be like her new friend Heather, happy, driven, aerobically fit. I infer that over the past 2 months social problems really got to Melinda, making her go into a depressed phase. She acts like she doesn't care about life, but deep down inside Melinda is hurt, she wants a friend to help and understand her. She is too afraid to speak for herself, caring about what other people will think about her voice.
Words of the Wiser pg. 30: "These are our role models-the Girls who Have it All."
This quote shows that Melinda is an observer, she observes the hierarchy of high school. The cute barbie cheerleaders are on top who have two faces. They act gorgeous and rich and perfect. But they also party like crazy and end up doing irresponsible things. Melinda obviously knows not to end up like her school's cheerleaders.
Contradiction pg. 61: "I order double cheese, double mushroom. Dad buries the soup in our backyard next to our dead beagle."
This quote shows that on Thanksgiving, Melinda and her father order pizza while their mom/wife is out working. Usually people cook a hearty, festival foods like Turkey and sweet potatoes. Melinda's family is messed up, her parents argue, and her mom is working desperately to keep her store running. During a family event, everyone is split apart doing their own "thing" eatind pizza.

If my character were to watch TV I think she would watch a too happy, reality TV show because she is so moody and isn't very active in her life. I think she would watch TV shows that display people living their life to the fullest, so in a sense Melinda would watch a perfect life she wish she had. Living a life you wish you had by creating or watching it, like Sims 3. Or she could watch a controversial TV show to think about her negative thoughts about that TV show.
